Hail damage and normal roof wear

Why a documented assessment should distinguish observed storm damage from aging, maintenance issues and other existing conditions.

Hail damage and normal roof wear

A photograph is the starting point

Roof changes can have more than one cause. Weather, age, installation details and past repairs can all affect the surface. The timing of a storm is useful context, but it does not by itself establish the cause of every mark or leak.

Ask for findings, not just a conclusion

A useful assessment records where damage was observed, which materials were affected and the conditions around them. Photographs of the roof and other exterior components can support the discussion, along with the property's prior condition and maintenance history.

Ask the contractor to identify existing wear or unrelated concerns as well. The proposed construction scope should explain what the findings support and where more investigation may be needed.

Keep the roof inspection professional

You can photograph accessible siding, gutters, screens and debris from a safe location. Leave roof-level inspection to an appropriate professional. Marks that look similar from the ground can require a closer examination to understand.

Separate repair scope from insurance coverage

KPS assesses conditions, documents findings and proposes repair work. Your insurer evaluates a claim under your policy. Send coverage and deductible questions to your insurer or qualified insurance adviser; an exterior assessment does not guarantee a covered loss.

Talk through your property.

Bring the location, the work you are considering and any existing photos or reports. KPS can help define the next step.
