Document what you can see safely
From the ground, photograph visible damage to gutters, siding, screens, window wraps and other accessible exterior surfaces. Note when the storm occurred and where you noticed changes. Keep any photos showing the property's earlier condition.
Stay off the roof and away from downed wires or visibly damaged structures. If you notice an active leak or an urgent safety concern, describe it clearly when contacting the appropriate professional.
Get a documented exterior assessment
Ask the contractor to explain the findings, identify the affected components and distinguish observed damage from existing wear. A useful assessment gives you photographs and a proposed scope, including what remains uncertain until work begins.
Consider the roof, siding, windows and gutters together. A repair plan should explain which parts of the exterior need attention and how their installation details connect.
Keep coverage questions with your insurer
Review your policy and contact your insurer about coverage, deductibles, reporting requirements and any deadlines. Coverage depends on the policy and the facts of the claim; a contractor's estimate is not a coverage decision.
KPS provides construction assessments, documentation and repair work. We do not act as your public adjuster or promise that a particular repair will be covered.
Review the repair proposal
Take time to understand the scope, materials, exclusions, payment terms and schedule. Ask how additional concealed damage would be documented and approved. Keep the assessment, correspondence and final construction documents together for your property records.
Talk through your property.
Bring the location, the work you are considering and any existing photos or reports. KPS can help define the next step.
